GEAR
Stand-Up Assist Strap

Installing a stand-up assist strap in your kayak might not seem like a big deal, but it can make a huge difference for any kayak angler.

Stand-up Strap: Stand up with ease!

It’s one of those upgrades that turns a good fishing trip into a great one, especially if you want more freedom to move.

Easier Standing and Sitting

Standing up in a kayak can be tricky, especially if you’re dealing with stiff legs or a wobbly boat.

  • A stand-up assist strap gives you that extra leverage to pull yourself up smoothly without risking your balance.

It makes standing and sitting a lot easier, reducing strain on your knees and back.

Better Visibility

When you’re standing, you can see much more of your surroundings—perfect for spotting fish hiding in the shallows or around structure.

  • The assist strap lets you move between sitting and standing with ease, giving you the best vantage point without the struggle.

Improved Casting

Standing up also means better casting accuracy.

  • You get a wider range of motion for placing your lure exactly where you want it, whether you’re aiming under docks or near a weed bed.

  • The assist strap helps you get up quickly and comfortably to make that perfect cast.

For a simple modification, a stand-up assist strap brings big benefits, making your time on the water more comfortable and effective.

THREE FISHING TIPS
Targeting Fall Walleye

🎣Fall is prime time for targeting eater walleye from your kayak, and the cooling waters make these fish active and hungry.

1. Start by working along drop-offs near rocky points or submerged timber—they love to hang around structure this time of year.

  • Focus on areas with a mix of rock and sand; walleye often use these transitions to ambush prey.

  • Use your fish finder to locate submerged timber or brush piles that offer cover for baitfish.

2. Slow-troll a crankbait or jig tipped with a minnow along the bottom, keeping a close eye on your fish finder for those subtle depth changes.

  • Adjust your trolling speed to match the water temperature; slower speeds often work better in cooler conditions.

  • Experiment with different jig weights to maintain contact with the bottom as the depth varies.

3. In low-light hours, walleye often move shallower, so switch to casting and retrieve a suspending jerkbait for those aggressive strikes.

  • Target shallow flats near deeper water where walleye can move in to feed during twilight hours.

  • Pause your jerkbait occasionally to trigger bites from following fish.

Stay patient, adjust your depth until you locate a school, and you're on your way to a limit of perfect eating-sized walleyes!

🐟️ With these tips in mind, you'll be well on your way to filling your cooler with some delicious fall walleye. Tight lines, and enjoy the season! 🎣✨

TASTY RECIPES
Baked Fish with Garlic & Basil

Ingredients:

  • 2 lb fish fillet like halibut

  • Salt and pepper

  • 1 1/2 tsp dry oregano

  • 1 tsp ground coriander

  • 1 tsp sweet paprika

  • 10 garlic cloves, minced

  • 15 basil leaves, sliced into ribbons

  • 6 tbsp extra virgin olive oil

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 2 bell peppers of any color, sliced (I used 1 red and 1 green bell pepper)

  • 2 shallots, peeled and sliced

Instructions:

  1. Pat the fish fillet dry and season with salt and pepper on both sides.

  2. Place the fish in a large zip-top bag. Add the oregano, coriander, paprika, minced garlic, basil, extra virgin olive oil, and lemon juice. Zip the bag shut and massage to ensure the fish is evenly coated in the marinade. Marinate for 30 minutes or up to 1 hour in the fridge (see notes).

  3. Heat oven to 425 degrees F.

  4. Arrange bell peppers and shallots in the bottom of a 9 x 13 baking dish. Place the fish on top and pour the marinade over it.

  5. Bake in the heated oven for 15 minutes or until the fish is done and flakes easily.
