Fall is prime time for smallmouth fishing, and here are a few favorite tactics:

• Target Rocky Areas: Smallmouth love hanging around rocks and ledges as temperatures cool.

• Use Crankbaits: Try a medium-diving crankbait to mimic baitfish in the fall.

• Work the Current: Cast near moving water, as smallmouth often feed in current breaks.

• Slow Down Your Retrieve: Cooler temps mean slower fish, so give them time to bite!

Catching a big smallmouth from your kayak is an absolute thrill, and feeling the fish pull you around makes the fight even more exciting!

THREE FISHING TIPS
Fall Crappie Fishing Locations

1. Look for Deep Structures: 

• In the fall, crappie often move to deeper water.

• Focus on drop-offs, ledges, or brush piles in 10-20 feet of water where they like to school up.

2. Target Creek Channels: 

• As temperatures cool, crappie tend to follow creek channels toward deeper sections of lakes.

• Fish near the bends or intersections for the best chances.

3. Hit Bridge Piers and Docks: 

• Crappie love holding near structure, so target bridge pilings, docks, and other man-made structures.

• They offer shade, cover, and steady food sources!

The cooler weather brings these fish into predictable spots, making it the perfect time to load up your kayak and get in on the action. So, grab your gear and head to the water—those fall crappie are waiting!

• Fish Near Reefs or Rocky Bottoms: Porgy love hanging out around structure.

• Use a Drop Rig: A simple drop rig with shrimp or squid works best.

• Keep Bait Near the Bottom: That's where porgy are searching for food.

• Be Ready for a Fight: These fish hit hard, so hang on!

Who cares about the fish, crack the code on that shoreline—have you ever caught yourself doing this? 🤣 

TASTY RECIPES
Grilled Whole Fish

Ingredients:

• 1 whole fish, gutted and scaled

• 3 slices of lemon

• 1 small bunch of fresh parsley

• 1–2 tsp kosher salt

• 1 tbsp olive oil

• Spray oil (preferably olive oil)

1. Heat the grill with coals on one side, creating a hot (400°F) and cool zone.

2. Pat the fish dry, season the cavity with salt, and stuff with lemon and parsley.

3. Coat the fish with olive oil, season both sides with salt.

4. Oil the hot grates, place the fish over the hot coals, and sear for 2 minutes per side.

5. If needed, move to cooler areas to prevent burning. Sear again if desired.

6. Move to indirect heat to finish cooking (140°F internal).

7. Serve immediately, and enjoy the cheek meat!
