KAYAK GEAR
Kayak Paddle Holder
Keeping your paddle secure while kayak fishing is a game changer and there are a wide variety of holders available.
Paddle holders make life on the water easier, giving you the freedom to cast, reel, or grab gear without worrying about your paddle floating away. They're an essential accessory for any serious kayak angler.
Secure your paddle!
When choosing a paddle holder, here are a few things to look for:
- Ease of Use: Quick, one-handed operation is key when you're juggling rods and gear.
- Secure Grip: A good paddle holder should keep your paddle firmly in place, even in choppy waters.
- Mounting Options: Some attach to tracks, while others use clips or bungees—pick what works best for your setup.
One of the top choices by many kayak anglers is an offset holder with a “Snapnstrap” tether for added security.
Adding a paddle holder to your kayak can save you time and frustration. Whether you go for a bungee-style holder or a clip-on design, it’s a small upgrade that makes a big difference in your fishing experience. It’s one of those "why didn’t I get this sooner" items!

THREE FISHING TIPS
Strategies for Targeting Big Fish on Light Tackle
Catching big fish on light tackle is a thrill like no other, but it takes a bit of strategy to make it happen.
Here are three solid tips to help you land that trophy fish without snapping your line.
1. Let the Drag Do the Work
➡️ Light tackle means trusting your reel's drag system to tire out the fish. Set it properly before casting to avoid breaking your line.
Keep the drag loose enough for smooth runs.
Adjust as needed during the fight to maintain control.
Test your drag strength before every trip.
2. Use the Right Leader Material
🎣 A quality leader can mean the difference between landing the fish or losing it to a sharp structure or teeth. Choose a leader that balances strength and invisibility.
Fluorocarbon leaders work great for clear water.
Aim for a leader strength just above your mainline.
Check for nicks or damage after every catch.
3. Play the Fish, Do Not Muscle It
🐟️ Big fish will test your patience, so stay calm and use the rod to your advantage. Let the fish tire itself out while you keep steady pressure.
Use smooth, controlled movements to avoid jerking the rod.
Keep the rod tip up to maintain tension.
Reel only when the fish is not running.
Targeting big fish on light tackle is all about patience, skill, and trusting your gear. With these tips, you can enjoy the challenge and excitement of landing your next big catch!
TASTY RECIPES
Baked Walleye w/Lemon Butter & Herbs
🔥 This is an excellent family & friends recipe!
Baked Walleye
Ingredients:
24 oz walleye fillets or other mild white fish
3 tablespoons butter
1 large garlic clove or two small
1 lemon zest and juice of half, rest sliced for serving
¼ cup chopped fresh parsley or soft herbs of choice
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 teaspoon olive oil
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 400°F
Pat fish fillets dry with paper towels and place in a shallow baking dish or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Season fish fillets to taste with salt and pepper and lightly brush with olive oil.
Bake for 9-11 minutes or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should read 145 degrees in the thickest part of the fillet.
While the fish is cooking, melt butter over low heat in a small saucepan. When the butter starts to foam, remove the pan from the heat. Grate in garlic and the zest of half a lemon. Stir in the juice of half a lemon and about half the chopped fresh herbs.
Thinly slice the other half of the lemon and arrange on a serving platter with more whole fresh herbs. Lay fish fillets on top, drizzle with lemon garlic butter sauce and sprinkle with the remaining chopped fresh herbs.
