THREE FISHING TIPS
3 Killer Techniques - Topwater Frogs for Bass
1. Walk the Frog
Walking the frog is a popular technique for fishing topwater frogs.
To do this, cast your frog near cover like lily pads or grass mats. Use a steady, side-to-side motion with your rod tip while reeling in slowly. This makes the frog move in a zigzag pattern that bass find irresistible.
It takes some practice, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be hooking big bass in no time!
2. Pop and Pause
Another effective method is the pop and pause.
After casting your frog, give it a few quick pops with your rod tip to create splashes and noise on the water's surface. Then, let the frog sit still for a few seconds before popping it again.
This imitates the movement of a real frog and drives bass crazy. Be ready to set the hook, as bass often strike during the pause.
3. Slow and Steady Retrieve
Sometimes, a slow and steady retrieve is the best way to fish a topwater frog.
Cast your frog out and simply reel it in at a slow, constant pace. This creates a smooth, lifelike swimming action that bass can't resist.
This technique is especially effective in calm water conditions and is a great option when bass are being finicky.
Give these topwater frog fishing techniques a try on your next kayak fishing trip, and you're sure to have a blast catching bass!
