GEAR
Drilling Into a Kayak & Fasteners

To attach kayak fishing accessories, drilling into your kayak is often necessary, but it must be done carefully to avoid damaging the kayak.

Drilling into your kayak

First, pick a spot on your kayak that is sturdy and free from critical areas like seams or where the kayak hull connects.

⚙️ When you're ready to drill, use a drill bit that matches the size of your screws or bolts. Start with a smaller pilot hole to guide the larger bit, which helps avoid cracking the plastic.

🔩 For fasteners, stainless steel screws or bolts are ideal because they resist rust and hold up well in wet conditions. Use well nuts or rivets for added security, as these expand inside the kayak, creating a strong hold.

☔️ Don't forget to use waterproof silicone around the holes before inserting the screws or bolts to prevent water from seeping in.

Remember, a little patience and careful planning go a long way to ensure your kayak remains safe and functional.

THREE FISHING TIPS
Finding Hidden Kayak Fishing Spots

Finding those hidden gems on the water can make your kayak fishing trip truly special.

1. Take advantage of your kayak’s ability to access shallow waters and tight spots that larger boats can’t reach.

  • These less-traveled areas often hold fish that aren’t spooked by heavy boat traffic.

2. Do some homework before you hit the water.

  • Use online maps or apps like Navionics to identify potential fishing hotspots, such as small coves, backwaters, or submerged structures that others might overlook.

3. Trust your instincts and be observant.

  • If you see signs of baitfish or birds diving in a quiet area, chances are good that bigger fish are nearby.

Exploring these overlooked areas can lead to some of the best fishing experiences, so don’t be afraid to venture off the beaten path!
